As reported on numerous occasions, the homeless situation in Hawai'i is out of control. The only solutions that have been forthcoming from the various government agencies can be classified as purely draconian, the latest being the Waikiki "sit-lie" ban that is slated to be expanded island-wide. In addition, exorbitant amounts of time, money, and resources have been devoted to essentially harass the homeless. The real solution, providing the homeless with a sanctioned place to sleep, is not even "on the table."

Obviously, measures enacted to harass and burden the homeless also affect the rest of the population. Public restrooms, for example, do not exist. Bus stop seating has been converted to homeless-proof accommodations limited to serving only two people. The "sit-lie" ban effectively ends any form of commonwealth. The public domain is being administered as private property. There are absolutely no public spaces anymore.

That's the importance of owning or renting a "home," a domicile that is now the only area devoid of a trespassing violation. Aside from engaging in wage slavery and patronizing paid venues, an individual must remain sequestered at home. Former public spaces are now strictly transit corridors. People must be in transit or risk a trespassing or loitering violation. Yes, that's the martial law of the "ownership society." The "home" is simply a glorified prison. In my view, it's really a tomb, a mausoleum.

On a side note, there has been a shortage of beat-up (i.e., sub-$9,000) minivans (read: homeless motorhomes) available for sale. The trend commenced about a month ago. I am absolutely certain that many of the homeless are purchasing the beat-up minivans. My observations have confirmed the latter. So, what does all of that have to do with hurdy-gurdy hottie Shae Summers? Nothing, of course.
Addendum
The "tent city" plan for Sand Island as proposed by local agencies has been scrapped, most likely because of the inability to properly detoxify the soil. Instead, large shipping containers will be purchased and converted into housing (term used loosely). According to local news sources, only the chronically homeless will be admitted. However, the 500+ people living in tents in the Kaka'ako area will not qualify, the sources mentioned in order to draw attention to the questionable qualification "standards."
