Downtown Revisited

On my way to restoring my extreme monk haircut, I walked past the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park at the Hotel Street entrance to Chinatown. I observed that the large natural fountain was demolished and excavated. The small park looked even worse than usual as a result. What can be said? The fountain was essentially a large urinal for the homeless and drunk derelicts who loiter there daily.

Typical Downtown Hottie
Chinatown is, of course, a high crime district. My formerly-homeless buddy has already warned me about the area surrounding the Chinatown dormitory. Myriad homeless, mostly Micronesian, arrive before midnight and camp along the sidewalk in the entire vicinity. Lots of drug dealers are also combing the area for customers. Derelicts and hoodlums ... well, they are everywhere once darkness descends.

The Chinatown dormitory is a dump. No surprise. It's right smack in the middle of the worst part of Chinatown. The "crack house" is just two blocks away. The tenants of the Chinatown dormitory are mostly low-income people. There are a few senior citizens and disabled tenants. There is no sense of community. People rarely speak to each other, which is probably for the better.

When I returned to the dump this afternoon, I noticed a note left by the landlord. It stated that, if Tom, confirmed drunkard, and his derelict buddies are seen on the property, the police should be alerted immediately. Obviously, Tom has reneged on his rehabilitation commitment. And, what none of the fools realize is that Tom has the keys to the house and the two-bedroom unit in the back.
